This year, Sweetest Day is celebrated on Saturday, October 15, 2011...

Image
For Healthy Marriages Setting aside a day in early autumn to family and loved ones, romantic gift exchanges are the most typical way to celebrate Sweetest Day. Families and individuals may also “sweeten the pot” with their own special traditions with gifts of flowers, fruit bouquets, poems & e-cards: • You admire the way the other person looks at you with love and affection. • You love the beautiful eyes of the other person. • You realize that how tough the life is without the other person. • You really enjoy the company of the other person. • You feel how important to share various aspects of life with him or her. • You admire the fact that no matter what happens, the sweetest person of your life will always stay beside you. • You understand that small jokes that the other person shares with you always act as fresh air in your life. • You respect the other person as he or she is one of the best teachers in your entire life. • You like the way he or she thinks about your very own p

To Forgive...To LIVE!

Dear Auntie Deborah, The Noble Peace Prize was just awarded to (3) Three Wonderful & Outstanding women of our day. I would like to add you because of the fight you fought to the List as the Fourth. You have shown us over the past 35+ years living with LUPUS,  http://www.lupus.org/ , how you can maintain both strength & faith to not just live one day at a time, but to make every hour your very best.  You taught me through how you handled adversity to not allow others to turn their wrong doings towards you into hatred towards them. I learned from you that hatred will stop you from growing, loving, caring & living etc...(which does not mean that it's not going to hurt like H*ll) but, it will show that you can and will survive. You've shown that Forgiveness is the best cure for living a full/healthy life, even when you felt that the reality that you were dealt was a Bad Hand. You shared with me that God teaches us this in 2 Thess 1:5-7 NIV 5 "All this is ev

He's Not Heavy, He's My Brother!

Image
There is a painting by an African-American artist I saw when I was younger, depicting a man reaching over a wall to help another man over to freedom. The caption under it read, “He’s not heavy, he’s my brother.” This painting was inspired by a song written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell in 1969. The first verse in the song said: The road is long with many a winding turn that leads us to who knows were, who knows when but I’m strong enough to carry him. He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother. Now, I have this same painting in my home... In these uncertain times there are a lot of brothers and sisters down who not only need a hand out but more importantly need a hand up. Especially from those of us who are in a position to help someone out. We should help lift them up because in helping them we really help ourselves. The Elements of Encouragement... Verbal abuse is still abuse. It’s abuse in the form of words. They still burn, sting, hurt and put us in danger. Don’t assume that a few hurtful words won’t cause them their life. Don’t assume that just because you haven’t put one finger on them, you’re not responsible for what happens after that. Mentally and emotionally, they are bruising, bleeding, suffocating. Your words have power, be careful. Speak life and love. Posted via email from Whyte23's posterous

I'ma Fight Back Right Now

Image
With great pride we present our very first Music Video production “I’ma Fight Back Right Now” from Grammy award-winning Arrested Development front man SPEECH. It’s an amazing song with an amazing message and another example that hip hop can be used for more than nonsense. SPEECH said the song was inspired by the No Wedding No Womb campaign that is today. The focus of the campaign is to fight the high out-of-wedlock birthrate in the African American community. Please take a few minutes to view the video and then consider sharing on all of your social networks. Request it on your local radio stations too. We need positive music like this in the worst way RIGHT NOW! Available for purchase at http://arresteddevelopmentmusic.com/ad-store/ Inspired by and written for The No Wedding No Womb Movement. Started by Christelyn Karazin, NWNM is primarily a call directed to the black community to take action against the rampant births of children who are born without physical, financial and emotion

The Gospel According To Jazz. Chapter III Legendary jazz keyboardist and producer George Duke once described vocalist Kevin Whalum as "butter," and that's about the best depiction I've heard. Whether covering soul, jazz, scat or gospel, Whalum's smooth, sweet voice (think of Will Downing as a tenor) makes him one of the most exciting new artists I've heard in quite awhile. Wisdom

A wise man is superior to any insults which can be put upon him, and the best reply to unseemly behavior is patience and moderation. Patience is the companion of wisdom. Cleverness is not wisdom. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. The best way to predict the future is to invent it. Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. The doors of wisdom are never shut. Bilal - Tainted Love

Image
This is a jam session. An act of improvisation without preparation. This is a video continuation of the Bilal and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Bomb Shelter saga entitled, "Tainted Love." Known by many as Synthpop duo Soft Cell's big hit in 1981, "Tainted Love" was originally composed by Ed Cobb, formerly of The Four Preps and originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964 as the B-side to "My Bad Boy's Coming Home". The original version was by no means a commercial success. In fact, it was a flop. However, in 1973, while British club DJ Richard Searling was on a trip to the U.S., he purchased a copy and found the Motown-influenced sound was a perfect match for the music movement with was growing in the UK club scene referred to as "Northern Soul. Searling took the song and popularized it. With new found popularity, Gloria Jones tried again, re-recording "Tainted Love" in 1976. But this again failed to chart. Several

It will feature expert contributors, man on the street interviews, anchor desk headline reporting, and the return of Janks Morton and his “Board of Education” to examine further the symbiotic relationship between media, government and special interest, as they exploit imagery, statistics and data that too often presents a skewed perspective of the modern era African American experience. Michael Jordan’s high school love letter revealed

Image
By Dan Devine Michael Jordan's tough-guy reputation will no doubt survive this revelation, but it's no less surprising and not the least bit less charming that a recently revealed high school love note Michael penned in 1980 shows him to be just as smitten as we all were, when gathering our thoughts as we prepared a note meant for the object of our teenaged affection. Yes, Michael Jordan wrote notes. Letters, to be more specific, including an alternately sheepish and smooth bit of romantic correspondence that he apparently wrote as a student at Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, N.C., in the early 1980s, well before he embarked on his Hall of Fame NBA career with the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards . In the letter, which sold at auction for $5,100.66 in December 2004 and was posted Thursday by the folks at the great site Letters of Note , Jordan apologizes to his "de

Blessings - Laura Story - LYRICS

Image
I know that this has been posted here several times. But, I want to post it again... With all the pain that everyone is in tonight, we all need some comfort. ♥ We pray for blessings, we pray for peace. Comfort for family, protection while we sleep. We pray for healing, prosperity. We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering. All the while, You hear each spoken need. Your love is too way too much to give us lesser things. Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops? What if your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near? What if trials of this night, are Your mercies in disguise? We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear. We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near. We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love. As if every promise from Your word is not enough. All, the while, You hear each desperate plea. And long that we'd have faith to believe.

Freedom Writers

Image
Take a group of restless, inner city students raised in the wrong side of the tracks, a determined teacher with a mission, and a session in Room 203, exploring beyond what is written in textbooks, and you get a movement that starts through writing. "Freedom Writers" is based on the true story of Erin Gruwell (played by Hilary Swank) and a diverse group of racially charged students. Unfortunate moments add up to memories that scar us with little or no explanation as to "why" it had to happen. This film inspires viewers to give hope a chance, even under the pressures of society. The Freedom Writers found an outlet to express their angst and rebellion through the help of their mentor, their teacher. Together, they mentally battled their way to survival. Sometimes the best way is the "write" way.

Home Court Disadvantage

Image
by Dr. Stacy L. Spencer Matthew 13:57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” The Memphis Grizzlies played an amazing game against the Spurs at home in the Fed Ex Forum that has been affectionately renamed the “house of grind.” The place was electric with fan frenzy. There is something special about playing at home that gives you that extra boost of confidence through support of the people. In many stadiums and arenas, the crowd is known as the sixth man because of how the fans add power to the team. Having a home court is supposed to be an advantage. The only place ‘home court’ is a disadvantage is in the arena of the anointed. Many times people who are anointed in the area of ministry are honored more away from home than they are by their own. The closer people are to you the more common you become. It’s hard for people to see you because they see you every day. This can
